Biodegradable plaster weights and twine will hold small plants in place in Lake Apopka as the plants take root.

A single boat, seemingly randomly following the shoreline of Lake Apopka and carrying 6,000 Illinois pondweed plants, is part of the ongoing efforts of the St. Johns River Water Management District to restore Lake Apopka. The plants used to be plentiful in the lake but disappeared 70 yeas ago. As the District’s work to improve water quality in the lake has progressed through many projects over the years, the plants are returning naturally and with the District’s help. Read more…
