The Florida Lake Management Society will host the 2008 NALMS Southeast Regional Conference in combination with the 19th Annual FLMS Conference and Meeting (FLMS 2008) at the beautiful Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Sandestin, Florida from June 2-5, 2008. The 2008 Conference will include a full day of workshops on Monday, June 2, covering a wide variety of lake management topics. Conference sessions begin on Tuesday, June 3 and run through the morning of Thursday, June 5. We have an exciting and informative agenda, with technical sessions held on a wide variety of topics related to water resources and lake management issues. The Conference will offer CEUs for the NALMS CLM/CLP certifications. An attendance of 200+ participants and 25+ exhibitors is expected.

FLMS is hosting the Conference in cooperation with the Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance and the Mattie Kelly Cultural and Environmental Institute, Okaloosa-Walton College, and these groups are holding their Conference immediately preceding FLMS. Technical Workshops:

Up to nine Pre-Conference Workshops are planned for Monday, June 2, 2008, on a wide range of lake management, evaluation and restoration issues. All workshops will be one half-day in length. You can register for the workshops only or add the workshops to your FLMS Conference registration. To register, please fill out the registration form and only select the workshops that you want to attend by workshop number. All workshops are restricted to 20 attendees and will be filled on a first register basis. Morning workshop registration includes workshop and morning snack break. Full day workshop includes lunch and morning and afternoon breaks. Please provide a first and second choice for each session (Morning and/or Afternoon) for which you want to register. Morning workshops are numbers 1-4 and afternoon workshops are numbers 5-9.

NALMS Certified Lake Manager (CLM) and Certified Lake Professional (CLP) Credits

For those people attending the conference who are either CLMs or CLPs, or who are interested in this NALMS certification, credits will likely be available again this year for attending some of the workshops and for the technical sessions. The exact number of credits will determined as the program is developed. See the NALMS web site for additional information on the CLM/CLP certificate.

Student Awards to Florida Residents:

The Florida Lake Management Society will award cash prizes of $300, $200, and $100 to student presenters for oral or poster presentations that most contribute to the science of lake management. Student presenters must be currently enrolled as a graduate or upper class (Junior or Senior) student at an institution of higher learning in Florida and have completed the topic research under the direction of a faculty advisor. If you wish to compete for these awards, please tell us with your abstract submittal.

Graduate Student & Teacher Travel Grants:

The Florida Lake Management Society (FLMS) will offer a limited number of conference travel grants to graduate students in Florida involved with water resource management studies and middle or high school environmental science teachers in Florida. Travel grants can be used to pay for the attendee's conference registration and room accommodations at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort June 2-5, 2008. For graduate students, we require a college or university contact (professor or other) to confirm student status. Applicants are required to submit their reasons why they would like to attend the conference, their expectations of what they will gain from the conference and their level of participation (session speaker, attendee) in the conference. If the grantee is part of a group of participants from the same college, or university and is able to share expenses, this also needs to be detailed and the applications submitted together if possible. Any graduate student or middle / high school teacher who wishes to apply for a travel grant must fill out this APPLICATION completely. The application must be signed and the hard copy mail to the following address before the March 31st deadline: Attn: Chuck Hanlon, Sponsor Chair, FLMS 2008 Conference, 3301 Gun Club Road, West Palm Beach, Florida 33406. CALL FOR PAPERS:  ABSTRACT DEADLINE IS MARCH 7, 2008.

We have a full program and no longer can accept abstracts for platform presentations. However, we encourage additional abstracts for the poster session. Authors who submit abstracts for posters can request to be wait-listed for a platform session in case of cancellations. Poster are limited to 4' (wide) x 3' (high).

Please prepare your Abstract in Microsoft Word or WordPerfect format and submit by e-mail to Mike Coveney (mcoveney@sjrwmd.com). We will consider abstracts submitted after March 7 if space is available.

TITLE: USE ALL CAPS
AUTHORS: Provide name(s) and affiliation(s) of author(s) including addresses, phone numbers, and E-mail addresses. If more than one author, please underline name of presenting author.
BODY: The body of the Abstract should state the purpose, results and relevant conclusions of the paper. Abstracts should not exceed 250 words!

Authors are encouraged to submit abstracts on all topics for the poster session. Authors in oral sessions are required to use a PowerPoint format for their presentation. Overhead projectors and 35 mm projectors will NOT be available at the Conference. Each session room will be equipped with a computer, LCD projector, and operator. Digital copies of presentations must be submitted to the Session Chairperson prior to the Conference for insertion onto each session computer. Connection of individual computers to the session equipment will not be allowed.

All authors of conference papers will be required to submit a 2-page extended abstract for inclusion into the Conference Proceedings that will be distributed at the Conference.  Details for preparing the extended abstract will be provided with the acceptance notification.  Conference fees are NOT waived for contributing authors, and all presenters are required to register for the Conference.
