Remembering 2014!
As we close the book on another successful technical symposium, let's take a look back at the 2014 event!
Wednesday's Incredible Race Student Fundraiser Event was held at the Florida Oceanographic Society's Coastal Center. The winners of the event were Danielle Marshall & Sam Arden, Dana Dettmar & Mark Lucius and Serge and Barb Thomas.
Both events raised a combined $900 to support the Kevin McCann Student Scholarship Fund which provides travel funding for students to attend the FLMS symposium.
Following a humorous look back at FLMS over the past 25 years with Board President Jennifer Sagan, this year's keynote speaker at the opening session was long-time FLMS and NALMS member and supporter, Marty Kelly of Atkins North America. Marty provided his perspective on water quality and water quantity issues affecting Florida over the past 25 years.
Tuesday evening ended with our poster session and Exhibitors Social. Many thanks go out to our exhibitors and sponsors who make this event financially possible. Please visit our exhibitors page for a full listing.
Wednesday's morning keynote speaker was Julie Espy of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Julie's presentation focused on restoration and protection efforts throughout Florida.
Our annual business meeting and banquet special lunch speaker was Florida Senator Charlie Dean who spoke on his life-long history in Florida and his love of our environment and the need for its protection.
Following Senator Dean, FLMS honored its long-time Treasurer, Mike Perry. Mike has served on the FLMS Board for the past 12 years and has been Treasurer for the past ten years. He currently serves as the Treasurer for NALMS. We say a BIG THANK YOU to Mike for his dedication!
